The gold rush for large scale marijuana farming in the southern California desert is no longer a secret.
Adelanto is a small desert city roughly two hours east of Los Angeles. Adelanto is mostly made up of orchard farms and poultry ranches. The big employers in town are prisons.
Community leaders and City Council member John “Bug” Woodard started to mull the idea of transforming the city into a high-tech mecca for marijuana cultivation. The high desert commmunity already had massive industrial buildings that could house state-of-the-art growing spaces for commercial-scale cannabis farming. City councils would only invite marijuana businesses and investor’s for the reason of needed revenue.
Adelanto, California is one of the first cities to permit commercial cultivation of medical marijuana.
Real Estate Spike
Legalized large scale marijuana farming has boosted Adelanto’s property values. Local businesses not even in the the cannabis market have realized their property is worth more than one million. The thinking is that my property is worth a million and a half. Local property owners become millionaires by selling their property to a future cannabis business or cannabis related business(examples: vape company, CBD oils, edibles, etc.).
With A Real Estate Spike Comes Jobs
Cannabis farming in Adelanto is limited to an industrial park far from residential and commercial areas and the ordinance does not allow for any retail sales. The end game is an entire cannabis ecosystem centered on large scale marijuana-farming. Bi-product companies have set up with celebrities to start new brands and this creates jobs all the way to the repair man.
I have been a resident of Colorado for 36 years. I’m a former owner of a Denver dispensary. The dispensary sold for my retirement.
