Only The Marijuana Friendly Cities Reap Economic Growth
Legal marijuana businesses are not allowed in every town and city of Colorado. Towns and cities of Colorado that do allow legal marijuana businesses will reap economic growth.
The numbers don’t lie.
Pueblo, Colorado is a city that has significant numbers that can be compared to other cities in Colorado that have staggering numbers. Denver, Boulder, and Colorado Springs are a couple of big Colorado cities that no longer have the large commercial real estate resources for marijuana business growth. The demand for commercial marijuana real estate has led to an overflow to Pueblo, Colorado. Many could see this coming soon as Pueblo approved recreational marijuana and invited economic growth.
Pueblo’s commercial construction industry is being driven by the cannabis industry.
Here are some hard numbers:
In 2015, 39.5 percent of all commercial building permits in the city and the county were related to the cannabis industry. That’s 90 of 228 permits.
Data indicates that the impact was even more significant in un-incorporated Pueblo County (outside the city limit is county jurisdiction). In 2015, 64.3 percent of all commercial building permits in un-incorporated Pueblo County were related to the cannabis industry. That equals 74 of 115 building permits.
Other data shows that commercial building expenditures on cannabis-related projects county-wide accounted for nearly 15 million total.
Based on these numbers, would you consider this a commercial real estate boom?
Anyone in the construction business knows that when a building permit is acquired that a domino effect takes place and others such as realtors, surveyors, contractors, etc., can reap contracts, jobs, and income.
Last year, Pueblo County voters approved an excise tax on cannabis that will fund community improvement projects and for the first time in the world marijuana taxes will fund higher education scholarships.
If marijuana is legal, then which towns and cities will get wealthy?
A medical marijuana business plan
I have been a resident of Colorado for 26 years. I’m a former owner of a Denver dispensary. It sold for retirement. My book, titled “Colorado Marijuana Real Estate,” is a how to guide for entrepreneurs and the blue-collar guy. This book provides a blueprint for starting a medical marijuana business plan.
